JOHOR BAHRU: In a move that marks a significant stride toward modernising built environment education in Malaysia, MTTC College has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia Southern Chapter (PAMSo).

The collaboration, announced on Wednesday, formalises a shared commitment to raising academic standards, strengthening professional pathways, and equipping future designers and architects with industry-ready skills.

The partnership recognises the urgent need for deeper alignment between classroom learning and real-world practice—a gap both sides say must be bridged as the nation advances in digital construction, Building Information Modelling (BIM), and sustainable architectural development.

“This MoU is more than a formality; it represents a meaningful investment in the next generation of built environment professionals,” said Mas Amelia, Programme Director of MTTC College.

“Together with PAMSo, we are confident that we can nurture a new generation of creative and competent professionals who are ready to contribute to the industry,” she stressed.

Under the agreement, PAMSo will endorse MTTC’s architecture- and design-related programmes while offering strategic guidance through its seat on MTTC’s Technical Advisory Committee (TAC). The chapter will contribute industry insights that ensure the college’s curriculum remains relevant, practice-oriented, and reflective of emerging technologies and professional standards.

For MTTC—one of Malaysia’s leading TVET institutions with a strong emphasis on hands-on learning—the collaboration adds professional weight to its programmes and enhances the depth of exposure available to students.

More than 70 percent of MTTC’s curriculum is already grounded in experiential training, and the MoU is expected to broaden opportunities for students to participate in workshops, exhibitions, design critiques, talks, and industry networking initiatives.

PAMSo Chairman Ahmad Farik Abd Ghaffar described the collaboration as timely, especially as the southern region continues to experience rising demand for skilled talent in architecture and construction.

“Through this partnership, we will serve as an industry advisor within MTTC College’s Technical Advisory Committee and guide the development of programmes that meet real industry needs,” he said. “We look forward to contributing our professional insights and working closely with MTTC College to elevate talent development in the built environment sector.”

A key component of the partnership is the integration of Building Information Modelling (BIM) competencies—now regarded as essential across architecture, engineering, and construction. With Malaysia pushing toward more digitalised and collaborative construction workflows, MTTC’s BIM-focused curriculum positions its students to meet industry expectations, while PAMSo’s professional endorsement ensures that academic training remains aligned with contemporary practice.

Both institutions emphasised that the collaboration is not solely academic in nature but aims to cultivate a stronger ecosystem of innovation, creativity, and professional growth. Students will gain exposure to real project demands, industry standards, and interdisciplinary collaboration—skills increasingly sought after in the modern built environment sector.

The MoU also strengthens MTTC’s regional outreach, particularly in Johor and the southern corridor, where rapid urban development continues to reshape economic and architectural landscapes.

As the event concluded, both parties reiterated their commitment to shaping future-ready professionals who can navigate an industry undergoing rapid technological transformation. The partnership, they said, marks the beginning of a long-term collaboration intended to inspire thought leadership, elevate talent, and promote excellence in architectural education.

In aligning education with industry, MTTC College and PAMSo are not only preparing students for the future—they are helping to build it.
