JOHOR BAHRU: In a world that often emphasizes individualism and self-preservation, the act of giving stands as a beacon of selflessness and compassion.
Whether it’s a simple act of kindness, a charitable donation, or the gift of one’s time, giving is a fundamental aspect of the human experience that transcends time and culture.
OCBC Bank Johor Bahru believes in the universal truth that giving is a virtue that knows no bounds, transcending the constraints of age, gender, race, and background.

OCBC Bank Johor Bahru has proved to be a testament to the enduring power of generosity, reminding us that the act of giving is a gift in itself, enriching the lives of both the giver and the world.
Sherun Old Folk’s Home and Handicap Centre, a non-profit centre that has been providing care and refuge to vulnerable senior citizens at Bandar Selesa Jaya received a RM15,000 contribution from the bank.
Staying true to its long-term commitment in supporting the needy and the penurious, OCBC bank has always lend support to these people as and when needed.
The contribution is for its dilapidated awning which needs to be upgraded as most elderly residents take their relaxation there during mid-day. With the new awning residents can now use the covered area outside the home without fear of the effects of intemperate weather conditions.

The fifteen-year old home has some 65 ageing occupants and a number of them are wheel-chair bound.
The centre’s chairperson Jayaratna Valiatham said the contribution from OCBC Bank is well-timed as its roof awning was in a bad condition and water began to seep through each time there is a downpour.
“Our residents often need to be out from the home for some recreational activities and to solely have fresh air and they can now do so safely,” she stressed.
She made it clear that Sherun Old Folk’s Home aimed to create a community for elderly residents to live comfortably.

“Our vision is to provide a safe and comfortable living environment for the elderly who may not have the support or resources to live independently,” she said.
Valiatham expressed her gratitude to OCBC Bank through its Johor Bahru branch for this thoughtful contribution and for coming to their aid in time of need.
“Their contribution of RM15,000 for this new awning will indeed go a long way for all of us here,” she stated.
Meanwhile speaking on behalf of OCBC bank, its southern region cluster manager and Johor Bahru branch senior manager Fiona Gan Huei Chin said their aim is to create a community for elderly residents to live comfortably.

“The home is a place for the elderly to interact with each other and keep each other company,” she said.
She said generosity consists not the sum given but the manner in which it is bestowed.
That’s why, she said we have the great opportunity to choose to give back and live lives of generosity. Each of us has the power to make a meaningful difference in someone’s life by giving.
“We should do what we can to create systemic change and work together to use our time, skills, goods, and advocacy to help others who are in need,” she asserted.

She pointed out that the bank engages with the communities it is involved in by assessing their needs and striving to meet them in the spirit of the long-term good of society.
“We are pleased to have helped the home for the elderly. It was such a pleasure to see the beaming faces gathered under this new awning at the launch event,” she expounded.
She said everyone can now enjoy the outdoors and fresh air without having to worry of being hit by direct sunlight or rain.
“We hope this addition will enhance their daily experience and contribute to their overall well-being,” she said.
It will be a sight to behold as residents spend time outside, in the company of fellow inmates, unwind and simply connect with nature.
She added that the initiative is a significant part of the bank’s aspiration to be Asia’s leading financial services partner for a sustainable future.
