
KUALA LUMPUR, July 17, 2023 – The Brotherhood of King Scouts Malaysia takes great pride in presenting the Bronze Tiger Award to Dato Syed Ahmad Idid, a distinguished figure whose remarkable contributions to the Scouting fraternity and society at large have left an indelible mark. This esteemed honoyr is bestowed upon Dato Syed Ahmad Idid as a testament to his outstanding achievements and unwavering commitment to service.
Major General (Retired) Professor Dato Dr Mohd Zin, Acting National Chief Scout cum National Chief Commissioner, congratulated Dato Syed Ahmad Idid for pioneering the brotherhood’s success and shaping it into what it is today. He commended Dato Syed Ahmad Idid for his remarkable contributions and lasting impact on the Scouting world. Major General (Retired) Professor Dato Dr Mohd Zin also acknowledged the achievements of two other Bronze Tiger award recipients, Tan Sri Gooi Hoe Soon, Chairman of AIA, and Dr Mohammed Mukhyuddin Sarwani, the Deputy National Chief Commissioner of the Scouts Association of Malaysia. The event was attended by over 200 King Scouts.
Born in the year of the Tiger, on June 12, 1938, Dato’ Syed Ahmad Idid embarked on his Scouting journey in 1952. His dedication and passion for the movement were evident early on when he was awarded the Queens Scout by Sir Tun Gerald Templer, the British High Commissioner in Malaya, in 1954. This prestigious recognition served as a foundation for his lifelong commitment to Scouting and its core values.
Recognizing the challenges faced by the Scouting movement, Dato Syed Ahmad Idid took decisive action to revitalize and strengthen the organization. In 1979, he proposed the formation of the Persaudaraan Pengakap Raja Malaysia, a visionary initiative aimed at addressing the decline in Scout membership and the lack of quality Scout leaders. This groundbreaking endeavor, officially launched in 1981 at the B-P House in Kuala Lumpur, marked a significant turning point in Malaysian Scouting.
As the founder of the Persaudaraan Pengakap Raja Malaysia, Dato Syed Ahmad Idid demonstrated his unwavering commitment to the Scouting movement. His visionary leadership and dedication breathed new life into the organization, motivating and inspiring youths to engage in Scouting activities. By increasing membership in schools and garnering external support, Dato Syed Ahmad Idid’s efforts not only supported the Persekutuan Pengakap Malaysia but also nurtured a renewed interest in Scouting among the youth.
During his tenure as the first Chairman of the Persaudaraan Pengakap Raja Malaysia, Dato Syed Ahmad Idid exhibited exceptional leadership and commitment. Despite his duties in the judiciary, he successfully laid the groundwork for the Brotherhood’s mission to cultivate a strong and vibrant Scouting community. Dato Syed Ahmad Idid’s training as a Scout instilled in him an inner strength, enabling him to face and overcome the challenges he encountered throughout his career with resilience and fortitude.
Throughout his illustrious career, Dato Syed Ahmad Idid has received numerous accolades both in Malaysia and abroad, underscoring his exceptional achievements and dedication to his chosen fields. From his distinguished role as a Guest Writer (Distinguished Academic Fellow) at the IIUM International Islamic University Malaysia to his service as a Director on the Boards of SIRIM Berhad, Korn/Ferry International, and the Tun Hussein Onn National Eye Hospital, Dato Syed Ahmad Idid has left an indelible impact in various sectors.
Dato Syed Ahmad Idid’s unwavering commitment to service extends beyond his professional achievements. His leadership in youth development and his remarkable contributions to the Royal Customs & Excise Department, the Legal & Judicial Service, and the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration have had a lasting impact on society.
In addition to his professional endeavors, Dato Syed Ahmad Idid has made significant contributions to legal literature, publishing influential works such as “Legal Decisions Affecting Bankers and Financiers,” the “Magistrates’ Courts Handbook,” and “Essentials of Arbitration.” His commitment to knowledge dissemination and his ability to simplify complex legal concepts have made him a revered figure within the legal community.
In recognition of his exceptional contributions, the Brotherhood of King Scouts Malaysia proudly presents the Bronze Tiger Award to Dato Syed Ahmad Idid. His unwavering dedication, outstanding leadership, and remarkable achievements have made a profound impact on the Scouting fraternity and society as a whole. The Bronze Tiger Award, similar to the highly renowned Bronze Wolf Award, holds immense significance within the Malaysian Scouting community. This award is specifically meant for members of Persaudaraan Pengakap Raja Malaysia and is bestowed upon outstanding Scouts who have demonstrated exemplary leadership and service. The award signifies exceptional contributions and commitment to Scouting within the Malaysian context.
