SHAH ALAM: Selangor has once again retained its position as Malaysia’s most visited state, welcoming 36.4 million domestic visitors in 2025, according to the latest findings from the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) Domestic Tourism Survey 2025.

This marks a 5.5% increase from the 34.5 million visitors recorded in 2024, reflecting the continued strength of the state’s tourism sector. The achievement places Selangor ahead of the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and Perak, reinforcing its standing as Malaysia’s leading tourism destination.

The continued success can be largely attributed to the strong momentum generated by the Visit Selangor Year 2025 campaign, which significantly enhanced the state’s tourism visibility through extensive promotional efforts, strategic partnerships, and high-impact tourism initiatives throughout the year.

The introduction of new tourism products and experiences across Selangor has further strengthened the state’s appeal, offering visitors a diverse range of attractions spanning leisure, eco-tourism, agro-tourism, medical tourism, and community-based tourism.

In addition, a robust calendar of tourism, cultural, sporting, and entertainment events held throughout 2025 played a key role in driving visitor arrivals and sustaining travel demand across the state. These events not only attracted visitors from across Malaysia but also generated positive economic spillovers for local businesses, tourism operators, and surrounding communities.

Chua Yee Ling, Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Selangor, said the achievement reflects the collective efforts of government agencies, local authorities, industry stakeholders, and community partners in continuously enhancing Selangor’s tourism offerings.

“Retaining our position as Malaysia’s most visited state is a testament to the strength of Selangor’s tourism ecosystem and the success of Visit Selangor Year 2025. Through the introduction of new attractions, strategic collaborations, and year-round events, we have successfully created compelling reasons for visitors to choose Selangor as their preferred destination. We remain committed to building on this momentum as we support the nation’s preparations for Visit Malaysia 2026.”

As Tourism Selangor prepares to celebrate its 25th anniversary this coming July, the organisation remains committed to intensifying its promotional efforts, expanding strategic collaborations, and introducing innovative tourism experiences to sustain Selangor’s appeal as a premier tourism destination.

These initiatives will continue to support sustainable economic growth for both the state and the nation while further strengthening Selangor’s position as a leading tourism hub in Malaysia.
