NILAI:  SWM Environment and Coca-Cola Bottlers Malaysia-Singapore-Brunei continue to strengthen their commitment to the sustainability agenda through the opening of the 5th Coca-Cola KITARecycle Drive-Through Centre (PPLK) facility at the Seremban City Council (MBS) Nilai Branch on June 11, 2026.

The opening of this new facility is driven by the encouraging achievements of the KITARecycle programme, which recorded a total collection of 30.2 tons of recyclables in 2025, 4.5% higher than the total collection of 28.9 tons in 2024.

The increase has proven the effectiveness of the community-based recycling programme approach through the KITARecycle digital platform by SWM Environment in cultivating the practise of waste separation at source and recycling.

According to SWM Environment Corporate General Manager, Mohd Norlisam Mohd Nordin, this achievement reflects an increase in public awareness and a stronger community commitment in supporting the sustainability agenda and circular economy.

“The encouraging achievements achieved through the KITARecycle programme prove that with systematic, easily accessible and user-friendly facilities, the community will come forward to provide support and play their role more actively in making the government’s policy of encouraging the people to practice waste separation at source and recycling activities a success. This is a positive sign towards the formation of a society that is more responsible towards the environment,” he said.

PPLK was introduced as a platform that makes it easier for people to drop off their recyclables through an efficient, practical and user-friendly drive-through method. This initiative not only empowers recycling practices, but also increases the recovery rate of recyclable resources and helps reduce reliance on landfills.

He said this new facility is the fifth to be developed as a result of strategic collaboration between SWM Environment and Coca-Cola Bottlers Malaysia-Singapore-Brunei as part of a joint commitment to strengthening the environmental sustainability agenda, expanding circular economy practices and supporting more sustainable community development in Negeri Sembilan.

The four previous facilities that began operating at Laman Jentayu, Laman Mawar, Laman Cempaka Sri 1 and Laman Cempaka Sri 2, Kota Seriemas, Bandar Enstek since December 2023 have shown very positive performance in collecting recyclables. These achievements prove the effectiveness of the PPLK model in encouraging continuous community participation in recycling activities.

The addition of this 5th facility is expected to have a greater impact on local residents and the business community around Nilai by providing easier access to systematic, safe and quality recycling facilities.

Among the main objectives of implementing this PPLK are to recognize the contributions of Coca-Cola Bottlers Malaysia-Singapore-Brunei in the development of sustainable infrastructure, strengthen strategic collaboration between the local government and private sectors, increase awareness and community participation in recycling activities, strengthen the culture of waste separation at source as a daily practice and support the aspirations of the Negeri Sembilan Government towards sustainable and low-carbon state development.

“Over the past 15 years of being established in Negeri Sembilan, the community here is not just our neighbours, but also part of the Coca-Cola family. Seeing the positive response to the KITARecycle programme by SWM Environment, we want to continue to play a role in helping to cultivate recycling practices among the community by providing more user-friendly facilities, said Khairul Anwar Ab. Gahani, Director of Public Affairs, Communications and Sustainability, Coca-Cola Bottlers Malaysia-Singapore-Brunei.

“With the collaboration of SWM Environment and the continued support of MBS & SWCorp, the construction of this fifth (5) facility can be realized and it is the first KITARecycle PPLK in Malaysia that provides wheelchair-friendly facilities and is 100% powered by a solar energy system to create more community-friendly and inclusively sustainable facilities.”

With the opening of this new facility, more local residents are expected to be able to practise waste separation at source more consistently and make recycling a part of their daily lifestyle.
