JOHOR BAHRU: As twilight laid its amber veil upon the southern skies and the call to prayer floated soft as a benediction over the Straits, a gathering of uncommon grace unfolded within the luminous halls of Capri by Fraser Johor Bahru.
Here, amid chandeliers aglow and hearts made tender by the holy month, children whose lives are often marked by silent struggle were welcomed not as guests alone—but as cherished kin.
In the spirit of Ramadan’s sacred hush, the hotel hosted a heartwarming Iftar for 20 children and trainees from Pusat Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti Nusajaya (PDK Nusajaya), marking the second chapter of an ongoing outreach devoted to uplifting individuals with special needs.

At the stroke of seven, the children arrived at the lobby—some shy in countenance, others bright-eyed with wonder—led by their chairman, Faiz Abdullah. They were received with warm embraces by Thompson Kou, General Manager of the hotel, alongside his Heads of Department, whose smiles bore the sincerity of purpose.
“There are evenings,” Kou reflected, his voice steady yet stirred with emotion, “when a hotel ceases to be bricks and mortar, and becomes instead a house of mercy. Tonight, we gather not merely to break fast, but to bind hearts.”
After a commemorative photograph to seal the moment in memory, the children were escorted to Caprilicious, the hotel’s signature restaurant, where the scene was dressed in festal splendour.
Beyond its windows, the sun dipped behind the storied span of the Johor-Singapore Causeway, casting molten hues across the horizon, as if heaven itself had kindled lanterns for the occasion.
Within, a live band wove melodies gentle and nostalgic through the air—notes that rose and fell like whispered prayers. The music lent a quiet majesty to the evening, each chord echoing the unspoken truth that joy, when shared, multiplies.
Awaiting the young guests was a sumptuous spread curated by Mohd Lizam Kamilan, Head Chef of Capri by Fraser Johor Bahru. The feast was no ordinary fare. Traditional Ramadan favourites stood side by side with vibrant live cooking stations, where flames danced and aromas unfurled like poetry from a well-worn page.

The children watched in delight as dishes were prepared before their eyes, their laughter mingling with the sizzle of skillets and the hum of conversation.
PDK Nusajaya, which currently supports 80 trainees of diverse backgrounds—including those with serious autism, Down syndrome, hyperactivity and learning disabilities—serves as a sanctuary of learning and growth in Gelang Patah. For many of the children, such outings are rare, and the simple act of dining in a grand setting becomes a tapestry of unforgettable memory.
“This Iftar is but a verse in a longer song,” Kou stressed. “Our goal is not merely to provide a meal, but to share blessings and foster a sense of belonging for those who are often overlooked. In their smiles, we find our purpose renewed.”
The event forms a cornerstone of the hotel’s Corporate Social Responsibility efforts under its “Simfoni Rasa” Ramadan initiative. Throughout the fasting month, a portion of proceeds from every Simfoni Rasa voucher sold is pledged directly to PDK Nusajaya—transforming each celebratory dinner into an act of quiet charity.
“This initiative allows our guests to dine with intention,” Kou explained. “When they gather with loved ones at our tables, they do so knowing their celebration helps strengthen the facilities and well-being of these extraordinary children.”
Indeed, the partnership between Capri by Fraser Johor Bahru and PDK Nusajaya is not fleeting. Earlier this month, the collaboration commenced with a “Meet & Greet” session and a dental health check-up for the trainees—an initiative that addressed both social and physical well-being.

In late March, the alliance shall culminate in the formal presentation of funds raised, accompanied by volunteer labour from the hotel’s team to repair and enhance the centre’s facilities.
“Ramadan teaches us that generosity is not measured by the size of the gift, but by the sincerity of the heart,” Kou said. “It is an honour to host these children. Through our donation drive, we invite our guests to stand beside us—not as spectators, but as partners in compassion.”
As the azan sounded and dates were lifted to waiting lips, the children broke their fast in unison. There was a sacred simplicity in the act: small hands reaching, quiet murmurs of gratitude, eyes shining in the warm glow of fellowship. In that moment, distinctions of ability dissolved; what remained was shared humanity.
Frasers Hospitality, headquartered in Singapore and operating more than 100 properties across over 20 countries, has long upheld a commitment to excellence in accommodation. Yet on this evening, excellence was not measured in stars or accolades, but in kindness freely given.
For when the night deepened and farewells were spoken, it was clear that something more enduring than a meal had been served. In the laughter of the children, in the clasped hands of caregivers, in the gentle resolve of a hotelier’s promise—there lingered the quiet triumph of compassion.
And so, beneath the velvet canopy of a Ramadan sky, Capri by Fraser Johor Bahru proved that the noblest architecture is not wrought of steel or stone, but of mercy. For in giving light to those who walk in shadow, we discover that the truest wealth lies not in what we possess—but in what we share.
