JOHOR BAHRU: This vibrant city played host to a dynamic convergence of minds as the 78th Technological Association Malaysia (TAM) Technical Conference unfolded at Trove Hotel.

Drawing over 110 delegates from across the region, the one-day event was a powerhouse of ideas, featuring leading professionals, researchers, and industrial experts united by a shared vision—to explore groundbreaking innovations, exchange transformative knowledge, and forge strategic collaborations that will shape the future of technology and engineering.

In his opening address, the 78th National Annual General Meeting (NAGM) organizing chairman, Ir Dr Ivan Vun Kai Wen said this conference is unique as it offers opportunity to explore the latest developments, address emerging challenges, and shape the future of the industry.

According to Dr Ivan they have put together a program featuring a series of insightful presentations, interactive discussions and a technical visit.

He hoped that this conference will not only enhance your knowledge but also inspire new ideas and connections that will contribute to the ongoing progress in the field.

He called on all to make the most of the networking opportunities available and use this time together to learn, grow, and collaborate as they push the boundaries of this industry.

In his address, TAM branch chairman Ir Mohd Khairul Azizat Johari said in a world that is increasingly shaped by technological advancements, staying informed and connected is more crucial than ever.

He pointed out that this conference provides an excellent opportunity for them to come together, exchange knowledge, discuss emerging trends, and explore the latest research and innovations that are transforming the industry.

“At this conference, we will be engaged in stimulating presentations, thought-provoking discussions, that will enhance our understanding of current challenges and opportunities,” asserted Mohd Khairul.

He also urged participants to make the most of the networking opportunities throughout the event.

“It is through collaboration and sharing of ideas that we can drive progress and achieve new breakthroughs.

Participants attending the conference found the sessions valuable, enriching and meaningful thus connections evolved over the course of this conference.

Some 13 delegated speakers and industrial specialists spoke on topics related to technology and engineering.

Among the topics discussed were: How to integrate sustainability development goals (SDG) with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) in business, Impact of modern vehicle fleets on road design, Case studies of building information modelling (BIM) practices in projects, Artificial intelligence (AI) governance in Malaysia.

Other topics included, The power of battery energy storage systems (BESS): Transforming the energy landscape, Industry, academic, and government synergy in Malaysia medical device advancement and Bridging Science and Engineering: the art of flight mechanics.

During the conference participants were indulged in a networking lunch and toured the various booths displaying their products.
In the evening a dinner was held for the delegates and invited guests.

NAGM chairman Dr Ivan Vun Kai Wen in his address at the start of the dinner said they were thrilled to have such a distinguished group of professionals gathered as it is a testament to the importance of the connections they are about to build.

The lion dance performance mesmerized the audience during the dinner.

“The challenges we faced has ranged from awareness and turning this event into a reality,” he added.

TAM National Council chairman Tung Chee Kuan said this networking dinner is not just an opportunity to enjoy great food and company, but also a chance to strengthen the bonds that unite us in our shared goals and aspirations.

He stressed that in today’s fast-paced world, the ability to network and exchange ideas is more critical than ever, adding that, “through these connections we open doors to new opportunities, inspire innovation and create future collaborations.”

A mesmerizing lion dance performance ignited the evening, blending rhythm and tradition in a dazzling display. Guests watched in awe as vibrant lions leapt and twirled through the hotel ballroom, setting the tone for an unforgettable networking dinner.

Meanwhile at the same venue a competition on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) was held for some 130 students.

The theme of this competition is “STEM Showcase 2025 Competition Advanced Paper Chain Link” which participants have to create a chain link using the materials provided.

According to the organizers the advanced paper chain link means that they have integrated engineering aspects which the judging criteria ensures less material used, longest chain and the maximum weight the link could be sustained.

The purpose of this competition is to implement cognitive skills and creativity to solve problems, promote teamwork and communication skills among students and challenge intellectual stimulation and alternative thinking among students.

The motive is explore more talented and active students, bringing confidence, happiness and fun for students.
13 schools participated with a total of 26 teams from government and private secondary schools.

The sponsors for this competition are University of Southampton Malaysia and University of Reading Malaysia. And supported by MyChem Resources which is an educational products related to STEM. The winners also received a trophy and a set of Mychem Helper Equation.
