JOHOR BAHRU: GoodHope Hotel is embracing the true spirit of giving back to the community this Ramadan by hosting a special buka puasa dinner for children bravely battling cancer.

In an event filled with compassion and joy, 22 children and their 23 guardians were invited to a heartwarming dinner at Penang Street Restaurant at the hotel. This special occasion was meant to spread happiness and hope among these young cancer warriors, as well as their loved ones.

The Group General Manager of GoodHope Hotel, Callie Tan, along with her management team, warmly welcomed the children and their guardians upon arrival. The team went above and beyond to create an environment of love, care, and support for all the attendees.

The event was designed to provide the children and their families with an evening to enjoy, away from the challenges they face in their daily lives while battling cancer.

The evening commenced with a thoughtful welcoming address from Tan. In her speech, she highlighted the importance of sharing and giving back, particularly during Ramadan, a season known for its emphasis on charity, compassion, and community.

She explained that the hotel’s main objective for this event was to provide support to the less fortunate and make them feel cared for during the holy month.

“Our team believes in the spirit of sharing and caring, especially during festive occasions when the underprivileged need more love and attention,” said Tan in her touching address.

Life, she said sometimes brings us challenges that feel too heavy to bear, but in each of you, I see strength, courage, and resilience that inspires all of us.

“You are facing a battle that no one should have to fight, and yet you do so with grace and determination every single day,” she asserted.

Turning to the parents and guardians, she said your love and support mean everything to your children. The journey you are on is not an easy one, but your dedication gives them the hope and strength they need. You are their pillars, and we see how much you care for them, even through the hardest moments.

She stressed that at GoodHope Hotel, they believe in the power of community, love, and hope.

“We are here to support you, and we want to remind you that you are never alone in this fight. Together, we will keep believing, hoping, and supporting one another,” she added.

She urged them to keep shining their light, and know that we are all cheering them on.

Following her speech, the event featured a heartfelt sharing session from two of the guardians on the cancer patients who were in attendance.

The guardians spoke of how these young fighters bravely going through their journey through cancer, the difficult experiences they have faced during chemotherapy, and the many challenges they continue to endure.

Their resilience, strength, and courage were met with admiration from all the guests, leaving everyone deeply moved.

As part of the festivities, GoodHope Hotel Skudai joined in spreading more joy by distributing duit raya, a traditional practice during Ramadan, to the 22 children.

Tan personally handed out green packets filled with duit raya to each child, lighting up their faces with smiles. The gesture symbolized the hotel’s desire to bring festive cheer and positivity to the lives of the children and their families, ensuring they felt valued and remembered during this time.

After the formal proceedings and a memorable group photograph to commemorate the event, the children and their guardians were invited to Penang Street Restaurant for a delightful buka puasa feast. The restaurant served an impressive spread of traditional, international, and local delicacies, all expertly prepared by the hotel’s talented culinary team.

The variety of food ensured that there was something for everyone, from comforting traditional Malay dishes to flavors from around the world.
