SENAI: Running is not just a personal pursuit of fitness and well-being; it can also be a powerful means to make a positive impact on the world around us with charity.

Combining running with a charitable cause adds depth and purpose to our runs, making each step more meaningful.

Le Grandeur Palm Resort (LGPR) Johor made a conscious effort to help raise funds for the Johor Cerebral Palsy Association (JCPA).

The resort organized the SMiLe Run to support a local charitable organization.

Children from the Johor Cerebral Palsy Association were also present to witness the event.

As a caring corporate organization, the resort remain focused on providing financial assistance to deserving charitable organization.

Le Grandeur Palm Resort’s annual event aimed to bring together community members in support of charitable causes.

According to the resort, this year’s proceeds will be channeled to JCPA.

For many the SMiLe Run has become a significant event in Senai, attracting participants who have registered to run for a cause.

LGPR chose JCPA to support their noble efforts in the community and as an NGO they offer premiere services for children and young adults with cerebral palsy.

Present for the occasion were LGPR chief operating officer (COO) Toh Poh Joo, resident manager Jamilah Muhamad and event chairman Sathiamurthi Murughan and representatives from JCPA.

In his welcome address Sathiamurthi urged event participants to enjoy the serene landscapes and luxurious amenities which offers unique opportunities for physical activity.

“Let us embrace the spirit of camaraderie and determination that running embodies,” he said.

He said the participants presence is an honour for them to join in this spectacular setting where every detail ensures unforgettable experiences.

20 birds were released before the start of the SMiLe Run.

In his opening address, Toh said LGPR is a place where challenges are met head-on and victories are celebrated with grace and humility.

He called on those present to experience not just the beauty of the surroundings but also the spirit of determination and teamwork.

Toh said, “We are excited to host the SMiLe Run for the third consecutive year.”

He said each year they have not only met their fundraising targets but also witnessed a growing number of participants.

“With the support of our sponsors and the local community, we aim to double our event attendance in 2024,” he said.

According to Toh they wanted to assist the JCPA for their caring, serving, educating, training, treating and providing special care for children with cerebral palsy.

“We are glad that this financial aid will help JCPA to provide for the betterment of the children,” he stressed.

Toh said he knows it is difficult for certain charitable organizations to source for resources during these challenging times.

He said the run aimed to raise awareness and funds to support the local community and improve the lives of the needy.

Prior to the run participants took part in a warm-up session.

“Through this event, we want to give back to our local community,” he asserted.

“Through this SMiLe Run, LGPR is taking a step forward to become a true community event and helping the disabled children across all ages and ethnicities,” he said.

He thanked the public for participating in a healthy event while at the same time contributing towards a charitable cause.

Not mincing his words he said, “During such a difficult economy, we hope to lend a helping hand to these non-profit organization by raising funds to support their activities and we need support from members of the public to make this happen.”

Let us continue to run for a good cause, knowing that our determination and efforts will shape a brighter tomorrow for Johor.

“May your footsteps echo with determination and may your journey inspire others to follow in our path,” he said.

Toh, said events like this exemplified the spirit of unity and compassion that characterised Johor.

The SMiLe Run race for all categories was flagged off by Allan Peter Fernandez.

All participants gathered at the lawn court for a warm-up session followed by a short briefing on the rules and safety of the run.

During the launch of SMiLe Run some 20 birds were released by Toh, Jamilah, Sathiamurthi and Allan Peter Fernandez.

The run attracted some 407 participants and the flag off was for three categories, the competitive runners in the 10km, as well as fun runs of 5km and 2km.

Winners in each category took home prizes ranging from RM1,000 to RM1,500, along with trophies.

Young teens also took part in the run as they found it fun as they wanted to cross the finish line with pride.

Toh later presented a mock cheque amounting RM12,000 to the secretary of JCPA Allan Peter Fernendez.

LGPR is a premier resort destination in Senai, known for its commitment to community engagement and charitable initiatives. The resort host various events throughout the year to support local causes and promote active lifestyles among residents.

Persatuan Cerebral Palsy Johor (JCPA) is one of the organizations in Malaysia which specialises in educating, training, treating and providing special needs for children with Cerebral Palsy (CP).

In June 1967, JCPA was formed with a pro-term Committee consisting of representatives from the government hospital, Department of Welfare, Department of Education, Army and Voluntary Organizations. The aim was the eventual establishment of a day school and therapy centre for children with CP.
