Staff of Mercure Kuala Lumpur Shaw Parade (MKLSP) put a smile on residents of Sri Mesra Old Folks Home during their visit to the home in Ampang, Selangor recently.

The visit was warmly welcomed by the elderly residents, aged between 60 and 90 years old, who had been abandoned or separated from family members, chatting and laughing with MKLSP staff.

The founder of the home, Faezah Ali, 46, led the hotel staff on a tour and introduced them to the residents who were clearly excited about receiving guests.

“To be a good person, it’s simple: we must respect everyone, regardless of age. We also need to donate.

“If we give food, give fairly. We do face limitations in providing extensive support due to constraints in staffing and space but Alhamdulillah, we are fortunate to have MKLSP’s support this time around,” said Faezah who added MKLSP’s presence has brought much happiness to the senior citizens who are always looking forward for someone to visit and spend time listening to them.

During the visit, MKLSP took this opportunity to contribute some items for the home such as groceries, toiletries, rice, blankets and adult diapers. It also donated two 40-inch television sets.

But it clearly showed their presence alone had a positive effect on the residents, all women as they chatted.

Meanwhile, MKLSP general manager Cindy Yeoh Lay Kean said it was important to remember senior citizens and to get them to share their life stories for the benefit of future generations

“Ensuring their wellbeing and providing them with the affection they deserve are challenging.

We want to bring the spirit of celebrations as the ladies had clearly missed their family members during this festive season. This is also to remind the public that Hari Raya is not just about having fun but remembering where we came from, especially our parents,” said Cindy Yeoh.

It was a priceless experience to know that such a small act of kindness was felt so deeply by the residents.

Beside visiting and doing items contributions, MKLSP will continue to support Sri Mesra Old Folks Home by helping to sell Faezah’s authored books at the hotel.

Each book is priced at RM50.00 each and the fund collected from selling the books will be channelled straight to the home. For those interested in purchasing these books, can visit the hotel or purchase them directly from Sri Mesra Old Folks Home.
