I was driving along the narrow roads separating the paddy fields, enjoying the golden paddy plants waiting to be harvested, when I spotted this Blue-tailed Bee-eater perched on a wooden post in the middle of the paddy field.
It flew into the air like a speedy kite and then came back, presumably having caught a flying insect in mid-air, and repeated this action. They are the best hunters of flying insects.
Malaysian nature is richly diverse in its biodiversity, even out there in the paddy fields there are a rich biodiversity of animals from different species of birds to monitor lizards, and different fishes in the irrigation canals. We need to work together to create awareness and support efforts to ensure the sustainability of the nation’s flora and fauna.
