
A common large shrub found in secondary forest, swampy grounds and clayey soil.
There are beautiful large bright yellow flowers with five large thin petals, on a long stalk. The fruits are interesting, pink-red star-shaped, displaying the purple seeds which are eaten by birds.
The plant has multiple uses, including medicinal and the large leaves are used to wrap food instead of plastic bags.
The simpor is the national flower of Brunei.
