JOHOR BARU: Suasana Suites Hotel showed their compassion, love and caring and hosted 15 children from Sari Saujana Home to a buka puasa. They were treated to a sumptuous food of Malaysian delight at the hotel’s Amber Room on Level 35 recently.

On hand to receive them were Suasana Suites Hotel chief operating officer Izudin Merican and the senior manager for revenue, quality control and risk assessment Tengku Azmi Raja Abdullah and other staff.

Izudin said he believes in the spirit of sharing, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.

He described the hosting of the Ramadan buffet at the hotel as an act of empathy on an auspicious season for people in need of it.

“We want to give back to the community and the hotel is delighted to show its caring side,” he said.

Every year during fasting month, the hotel never failed to organise community services programmes for the needy as part of its corporate social responsibility.

Izudin said the initiative was aimed at reflecting the spirit of charity and almsgiving during Ramadan and building a sense of community.

“We strive to put smiles on the orphans’ face,” he said.

The children and teens from the home said it was their first experience visiting a hotel in the city centre.

This year they wanted to assist the Sari Saujana Home for the needy so that they can get closer to the children and staff.

The evening began with Suasana Suites Hotel staff welcoming and entertaining the guests from the home.

Sari Saujana is a home for children from broken homes, single mothers who could not care for them and destitute families.

Siti Sariah, who runs the home, said these children aged 10 to 17 live with her and are well taken care of.

She looks after them as her own and she is now like a foster mother to a few kids whose parents abandoned them.

She opened the orphanage in 2001 and has since taken in dozens of children.

The home, according to Siti, depended on the generosity of many people and non-governmental organisations who donate items and cash.

Before leaving, Izudin and Tengku Azmi handed out duit raya and Hari Raya goodies to all the guests.
