JOHOR BARU: A total of 25 cancer stricken children and adults were treated to a sumptuous buka puasa dinner at Gleneagles Terrace Restaurant recently.

Pulai Springs Resort collaborated with Free Market Johor (FMJ) to host these less fortunate cancer patients accompanied by four volunteers from FMJ.

In his welcoming address, the resort’s general manager Sunny Soo greeted the patients together with the kids’ guardians at Kayangan Suites ballroom together with the resort’s management team.

This was followed by a sharing session by two cancer survivors.

The two patients took turns to talk about their experience with everyone present including how they were going through life with cancer, chemotherapy treatments and challenges that may come their way.

Sunny said this project aims to create moments worth remembering for these children.

He said that such an event would increase public awareness of cancer and inspire creative ideas for society to show its care for the children and adults.

“Our team believes in the spirit of sharing and caring especially during the festive occasions when these underprivileged need more love and attention,” he remarked.

He also stressed that the hotel’s main objective is to remember the less fortunate come this season of giving and sharing and to be a part of a wonderful festive celebration with them.

Sunny also distributed duit raya to all the 25 cancer patients that evening so that they will have a little pocket money for the Hari Raya celebrations.

It was an evening to remember as the hotel’s management team led by Sunny entertained and attended to the children’s needs.

The resort’s team of chefs specially prepared appetising roast lamb, asam pedas, rojak asma, mee kolok ala pulai, durian goreng, nasi arab with kari kambing as well as local Malay kuih, cakes and ice cream, desserts and serawa durian.

“They don’t usually get to sample hotel food or get treated to such a lavish spread,” Sunny said.

“Everyone, you are brave, strong and loved. You are our inspiration. Keep fighting and know that everyone is sending prayers your way,” he said in his speech.

“Seeing them here reminds us that nothing lasts forever. We should treasure our loved ones and spend as much time as possible with them while we still can,” added Sunny.

Sunny who helped the children pick out items from the buffet line, commended the noble humanitarian services provided by NGOs like FMJ.
