Amidst large cheers from the guests, mainly veteran journalists, Tan Sri Johan Jaaffar launched the apakhabartv.com portal, at the Bandar Sri Damansara Kayu Restaurant on Dec 31, 2022.

Clad in a black Apakhabar t-shirt, he cut a ribbon, exposing the portal’s logo, flanked by portal editor Rashid Yusof, and several guests.

Earlier, Johan, in his speech, said the media freedom index in Malaysia could be raised further if the media continued to be the voice, eyes and ears of the people.

“We hope the government will genuinely assist news portals in need of funds,” he said.

Rashid said the portal was different from the rest. “Our writers are not only journalists but those who have expertise in their own fields.

“We also invite members of the public who may want to have their say on certain issues to write to us,” Rashid, who was the NST Group Editor said.

Rashid, who has more than 30 years’ experience in journalism said the articles should be written comprehensively and be beneficial to others.
