JOHOR BARU: The sweet sound of music from the I.J. Convent School choir resonated across Gleneagles Hospital Medini Johor as the carolers sang a wide range of Christmas carols at the hospital lobby recently.

This was part of the gesture in appreciation of the hospital’s contribution to the school that was built in 1926.

The atmosphere at the hospital was cheerful as patients and visitors gathered to be mesmerised by the students.

Chief executive officer (CEO) of the hospital, Dr Kamal Amzan said singing in front of the patients and visitors in the hospital brought a soothing feeling and joy to them.

He said the hospital has taken a proactive step by extending an invitation to the I.J. Convent School choir so that patients would have the joy of listening to their beautiful voices.

“Music is a great healing channel and a unique avenue for change in the healthcare system,” he said.

He stressed that the hospital is pleased to be able to spread some Christmas delights and cheer.

“Their singing is a testament to how the all-girls choir were able to blend their voices and touch people in such a special way,” he said.

Dr Kamal added that Christmas may be two weeks away but the early presence of the emsemble has brought happiness to the patients.

“I hope that the carolers inspire our healthcare staff to do their best for our patients,” he added.

Earlier, the hospital signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the school to to forge a two-way smart cooperation through twinning programmes.

The agreement was signed by Dr Kamal and school principal Ande Noor Munawara Bachok,  in the presence of representatives of both parties

She said the objective of the collaboration is to work together in enhancing the awareness of the school community regarding mental healthcare.

“The MoU further states that both parties will work together to develop the potential of students and teachers between both organisations,” she said.

She added that both parties will also exchange ideas, experiences, creativity and bring in innovative practices in various fields especially in healthcare.
