ISKANDAR PUTERI: Beneath a canopy of soft lights and cascading florals, where laughter mingled with memory and ambition, the Henley Business School Malaysia Alumni Johor Chapter brought its community together in a celebration that was as much about the past as it was about the future.

Held at Sunway Hotel Big Box, the Annual Dinner 2026 unfolded like a living tapestry of shared journeys, where alumni, students, corporate partners and industry leaders gathered under the evocative theme “Enchanted Garden Gala” — a night that blossomed with connection, reflection and renewed purpose.

The hall, transformed into a dreamlike garden of elegance, shimmered with ambient lighting and intricate floral décor, setting the stage for an evening that celebrated not just professional milestones, but the enduring human bonds forged through years of academic pursuit.

From the moment guests arrived, there was a palpable sense of homecoming.

Former classmates embraced like old friends rediscovering familiar chapters of their lives, while conversations flowed effortlessly between recollections of lecture halls and discussions of boardrooms.

It was a rare confluence where personal memories intertwined with professional aspirations — a reminder that education, at its core, is as much about people as it is about knowledge.

Among those present were Dato Yap Kuak Fong, chairman of HAAM, Edwin Loh and Teck Yong Eng, whose presence underscored the strong bridge between academia and industry that continues to define the Henley network. Also present was Brenda Benedict, organising president.

In his address, Yap spoke with conviction on the importance of unity in an increasingly complex world.

“An alumni network is not merely a directory of names — it is a living ecosystem of shared knowledge, support and opportunity,” he said.

“When we remain connected and committed to one another, we do not just grow individually — we create impact that extends far beyond ourselves, into our industries and into society,” he said.

The audience sat captivated as the Reading Music Club took to the stage, their performance weaving a spell of melody and emotion that lingered long after the final note faded.

The evening’s intellectual centrepiece came in the form of a thought-provoking sharing session by Carl Yip, who challenged attendees to rethink how organisations approach artificial intelligence.

“The true value of AI lies not in experimentation alone, but in disciplined execution,” he noted.

“Businesses must move beyond curiosity and focus on practical implementation — where technology drives efficiency, enhances performance, and delivers measurable outcomes.”

His insights struck a chord with the audience, sparking animated discussions on digital transformation, ethical responsibility and the evolving demands placed on leadership in an increasingly technology-driven world.

Yet, beyond the exchange of ideas, the evening remained deeply human.

Moments of recognition saw committee members honoured for their dedication, while bursts of laughter filled the room during the lively lucky draw sessions, generously supported by sponsors including Sunway Malls and Philo Chiropractor.

Live performances added rhythm and colour to the night, their melodies weaving seamlessly into the atmosphere, elevating the celebration into something both intimate and grand.

With a warm smile and a gesture of gratitude, Brenda presents a Certificate of Recognition to Sunway Malls sponsor Dr Ahmad Hakim Abdul Rahman, honouring his support that helped bring the occasion to life.

For Brenda Benedict, the dinner was more than an annual gathering — it was a reflection of something far deeper.

“This evening is a testament to the strength of our community. It is a space where we reconnect, share ideas, celebrate milestones, and continue building relationships that go far beyond the classroom,” she said.

Her words echoed in the sentiments of many present.

Attendees spoke of renewed connections, fresh collaborations and the quiet reassurance that, despite the passage of time and the demands of professional life, the Henley network remained a constant — a source of support, inspiration and belonging.

As the night drew to a close, the garden lights dimmed, but the spirit of the evening lingered.

In every handshake, every shared story and every promise of future collaboration, there was a sense that this was not an ending, but a continuation — of journeys intertwined, of ambitions shared, and of a community that continues to grow, quietly but powerfully, across industries and generations.

For in that enchanted space, amid light and laughter, one truth stood clear: while careers may diverge and paths may change, the bonds of a shared beginning endure — steady as roots, and just as capable of bearing new growth.

Drawn together in a moment of laughter and light, these friends lean into one another—hands intertwined, hearts unguarded—capturing the quiet magic of a night where camaraderie bloomed as beautifully as the garden that surrounded them.
