DESARU (JOHOR): As twilight gently unfurled its violet cloak over the shores of Desaru, the sacred hush of Ramadan descended upon the halls of Lotus Desaru Beach Resort & Spa. Beneath glowing chandeliers and the quiet murmur of anticipation, hearts gathered not merely to break bread, but to celebrate a deeper nourishment — the timeless virtues of compassion, generosity and shared humanity.
On this blessed evening, more than 400 guests assembled for a heartfelt Iftar ceremony that reached beyond ceremony and tradition. It was a gathering woven with kindness, where orphaned children, members of the asnaf community and persons with disabilities (OKU) were welcomed with warmth and dignity, their presence illuminating the true meaning of Ramadan.
Among those present were founder of Lotus Group and chief executive officer Tan Sri Doraisingam Pillai, Lotus Group chairman Datuk Seri Dr Md Isa Sabu, deputy chairman Datuk Mohamed Thajudeen and group chief legal officer Indra Gandhi Pillai.

The evening also drew the presence of Johor Lama state assemblyman Norliza Noh, along with Dato’ Nasir Safar and Dato’ Zainal Osman, alongside officials from various government agencies. Community leaders Dato’ Sri Saravana Kumar and Pasupathy Mariappan, councillors for Penggerang, were also in attendance.
Yet amid the distinguished presence of leaders and dignitaries, it was the laughter of children and the quiet smiles of gratitude that lent the evening its deepest meaning.
The gathering began in reverent reflection with the recitation of prayers, the words rising softly into the evening air like whispered gratitude. As the call to break fast approached, guests sat together in quiet anticipation, united by the simple yet profound act of sharing sustenance after a day of fasting.
When the moment arrived, plates were filled with a lavish Iftar buffet thoughtfully prepared by the resort’s culinary team. The spread celebrated the rich tapestry of Malaysia’s Ramadan traditions — fragrant rendang simmered in spices, fiery sambal that stirred the senses, and an array of delicate kuih-muih and desserts that glimmered like jewels upon the tables.
But beyond the abundance of food lay the greater feast — fellowship.

Resort staff moved among the guests with warm smiles, ensuring every plate was filled and every child felt welcome. Volunteers knelt beside young guests, chatting, serving dishes and sharing laughter that echoed through the hall like music.
In his address, Datuk Mohamed Thajudeen spoke with heartfelt sincerity, reminding those present of the deeper meaning behind the evening’s gathering.
“All praise and the highest gratitude be to Allah SWT for, with His permission, we are able to gather together this evening for the Iftar ceremony with orphans, the asnaf community and persons with disabilities here at Lotus Desaru Beach Resort & Spa,” he said.
“On behalf of the Lotus Group, I would like to record our highest appreciation and sincere thanks to the Honourable Minister, as well as all distinguished guests and attendees who have graciously taken the time to be present and enliven this evening’s event.”
He described Ramadan as a sacred reminder of humanity’s shared responsibility to uplift those in need.

“The month of Ramadan is a blessed month that reminds us of the values of gratitude, compassion and concern for those in need. This gathering is a small effort by Lotus Group to share our blessings and extend care to orphans, the asnaf community and persons with disabilities within our community.”
His words, spoken with quiet conviction, seemed to settle gently among the audience.
“We hope that the contributions presented tonight will bring some joy and benefit to the recipients,” he added. “May this event further strengthen the bonds of friendship and nurture a spirit of togetherness within our society.”
The evening unfolded with moments of culture and celebration. Students from SMK Agama Bandar Penawar graced the gathering with a graceful ghazal performance, their voices carrying melodies of tradition and devotion that seemed to linger in the air like poetry.
In a burst of youthful energy, a content creator also launched a lively Raya song titled Huru Hara Raya, drawing laughter and applause from the crowd.

Yet perhaps the most touching moment came when children stepped forward to receive duit raya and gift bags. The small envelopes and packages, filled with essentials and thoughtful gifts, brought radiant smiles to young faces — smiles that needed no translation.
Some children clutched their gifts tightly, while others looked up shyly at the guests who handed them over, their eyes gleaming with gratitude.
For many of the families present, the evening was more than a celebration — it was a reminder that they were seen, valued and embraced by the community.
As the night deepened and the final prayers were offered, the hall glowed with a quiet sense of fulfilment. Conversations softened, laughter lingered, and gratitude hung gently in the air like the fading echo of a prayer.
The Iftar at Lotus Desaru Beach Resort & Spa was not merely an act of charity, but a living testament to the spirit of Ramadan — a season that calls upon hearts to open wider, to give more freely and to remember that the greatest wealth lies in kindness shared.

Under the stewardship of Indra Gandhi Pillai and the leadership of the Lotus Group, the resort continues to set an example of corporate compassion, proving that hospitality can extend far beyond the walls of a grand resort.
And so the evening drew to a tender close — not with grand declarations, but with quiet gratitude.
For in the gentle glow of Ramadan, among children’s laughter and shared meals, the simple truth shone brightly: when generosity walks hand in hand with humanity, even an ordinary night may become something timeless.
