JOHOR BAHRU: The Rotary Club of Pasir Gudang Mandarin marked a milestone moment with the grand installation of its 6th president, Kimberly Chan, at the Austin International Convention Centre.

The evening unfolded in a dazzling display of camaraderie and celebration, as Rotarians from sister clubs, distinguished guests, and close friends gathered to witness the occasion.

Amid glittering lights and thunderous applause, dignitaries were warmly welcomed down the aisle, setting the tone for a night of unity, service, and inspiration.

President Kimberly Chan then delivered an inspiring address that set the tone for the year ahead.

In her speech, Chan expressed heartfelt gratitude to her predecessor and the outgoing committee, commending their dedication and commitment in laying a strong foundation for the club’s growth.

“Leadership is never a one-person journey; it is a shared responsibility,” she said, acknowledging the trust placed in her and the support of her fellow Rotarians.

She emphasized that the evening was not only about the installation of new officers but also a renewal of the club’s mission to serve, innovate, and create meaningful impact.

In her address, President Chan set a clear direction for the Rotary Club’s new term, emphasizing three core priorities.

First, she underscored the importance of Unity, calling for stronger bonds among members to create a culture of inclusivity where every contribution is valued.

Second, she highlighted Growth, focusing on expanding opportunities for learning and leadership while inspiring the next generation to embrace Rotary.

Finally, she reaffirmed the club’s commitment to Service, pledging to drive impactful initiatives that uplift lives and strengthen communities.

Her vision, Chan said, is to build a Rotary that not only thrives within but also continues to make a lasting difference beyond its own circle.

Chan’s message was one of optimism and collective purpose. “With passion in our hearts and teamwork in our spirit, there is nothing we cannot achieve,” she declared, rallying members to work together toward a brighter future.

The new president also took a moment to thank her family and loved ones for their unwavering support, as well as the distinguished guests and friends in attendance, whose presence, she said, made the evening even more meaningful.

Organizing Chairman Alex Cheo extended his heartfelt appreciation to distinguished guests, Rotarians, family, and friends for their overwhelming support at the installation dinner.

Cheo emphasized that it was the presence of those gathered that made the evening a memorable and successful celebration.

He also paid tribute to the Organizing Committee, commending their dedication and hard work in transforming the event into more than just a dinner — but a true gathering of fellowship and service.

Looking ahead, Cheo called on members and supporters to uphold the Rotary spirit, working together to move forward towards a brighter future.

Meanwhile outgoing President Goh Hee Seng delivered a heartfelt address themed around “Team Dopamine Dressing.”

In his speech, Goh warmly welcomed guests and reflected on the journey of the past Rotary year, guided by the motto “Service Above Self.” He emphasized the club’s commitment to making a meaningful impact in the community while strengthening bonds among Rotarians.

“This evening would not be possible without the unwavering support, hard work, and commitment of our board members, club members, and partners,” he said, extending his deepest gratitude for the contributions and encouragement that fuelled the club’s success.

“Together, in the true spirit of growth, connection, fellowship, and service, Rotary will continue to Unite for Good and make a difference,” Goh concluded, thanking all in attendance for making the evening memorable.

Highlighting Rotary’s unique system of rotating leadership, Goh noted that the practice brings “fresh perspectives, new ideas, and boundless energy” to the organization year after year. He expressed confidence that the club will continue to grow and thrive in the spirit of fellowship and service.

With heartfelt gratitude expressed by the outgoing president, renewed purpose charted by President Chan, and the organizing chairman’s call for collective spirit, the evening became more than a ceremony—it was a powerful reminder of the club’s shared mission to create meaningful impact.

Later in his address to the gathering, Dr Shahul Hameed, Rotary International District 3310 Governor said Rotary is not just about rituals, titles or ceremonies—it is about courage, unity, and impact.

This was the resounding message delivered by Dr Shahul as he addressed Rotarians at the Installation of President Chan and her new Board of Directors.

“An Installation is never just a ritual. It is not simply the passing of a collar. It is the beginning of a new song—a song of fellowship, of courage, and of harmony,” he said, drawing warm applause from the floor,” he said.

Reflecting on the Club’s track record, Dr Shahul praised its spirit of service despite its small membership. He recalled how many doubted whether the Club could successfully host the District 3310 PETS and DTA earlier this year.

Yet, under the leadership of Past President Ng Ling Ching, the Club rose to the occasion and delivered what he described as “not just an event, but an experience.

“Rotary is not measured by size, but by spirit,” he declared. “You showed us what determination looks like.”

Dr Shahul also highlighted the Club’s role in managing the DTA Fund for Johor and Melaka Clubs, enabling local Rotary Clubs to channel RM10,000 to RM15,000 each into community projects.

“A Club of 12 planting seeds of service that will benefit thousands—this is impact beyond size,” he stressed.

However, he cautioned that declining membership remains a pressing challenge. The Club, which had 24 members five years ago, now stands at 12. “This is not just a statistic. It is a story—a story that asks us what tomorrow will look like,” he said.

Calling membership the “heartbeat of Rotary,” Dr Shahul stressed that growth is not about numbers alone, but about ideas, talents, and energy that new members bring.

“Without members, there is no fellowship, no service, no future,” he warned, urging Rotarians to rebuild with purpose.

He commended President Chan’s threefold vision of Unity, Growth, and Service, calling it both timely and essential.

  • “Unity is our strength—not uniformity, but harmony.”
  • “Growth is our future—every new member is a new heartbeat, a new story.”
  • “Service is our soul—it is why we exist, not for titles or glory, but to restore dignity and rewrite futures.”

“Together—Unity gives us strength, Growth gives us reach, and Service gives us purpose. When all three unite, a small Club becomes a great force,” he said.

Dr Shahul reminded the incoming Board that leadership is not about titles but about the trust of the community. “Do not let the size of challenges overwhelm you. Let the size of your compassion define you,” he urged.

In a moving close, he reminded Rotarians of the lasting legacy of service:

“Fortunes can disappear. Fame is short-lived. Even our names may one day be forgotten. But what we give to the world through service—that will always remain.”

“Rotary was not built to be comfortable—it was built to be courageous. The Rotary wheel is not a status symbol; it is a call to motion. When we turn together, we move the world forward,” he added.

He ended with a rallying call: “Let us Engage Rotary. Let us Change Lives. Let us Unite for Good.”

The installation night closed on a high note, not only celebrating the leadership transition but also reaffirming the enduring values of Rotary—service, fellowship, and unity.

As the Rotary Club of Pasir Gudang Mandarin steps into its new chapter, the resounding spirit of camaraderie and commitment promises a future marked by growth, connection, and service to the community.
