JOHOR BAHRU: The Rotary Club of Puteri Lagoon (RCPL) in Johor Bahru has collaborated with Angel Heart JB to establish a multi-sensory gym room designed specifically for children with special needs.
RCPL, in partnership with Angel Heart JB, a committed support organization for families of children with special needs, has proudly announced the establishment of a new multi-sensorial gym room.
This advanced facility will offer tailored therapy and assistance for children with autism, Down syndrome, global developmental delays, and various other conditions, establishing a vital resource for families in the city.

Dr Kate Chan Sook Cheng, president of RCPL said this initiative addresses the increasing need for specialized services within the local community, where numerous families are facing challenges in obtaining affordable therapy.
She said due to the scarcity of resources and qualified specialists in the region, children with special needs frequently experience extended delays in receiving therapy and are confronted with significant financial burdens.
She went on to say that the newly established gym facility seeks to tackle these challenges by offering a secure, encouraging, and adequately equipped space for therapeutic activities within the community.
“The newly established multi-sensory gymnasium will address the requirements of children with special needs, especially those affiliated with Angel Heart JB,” she remarked.
According to Dr Kate, currently, this support group provides assistance to over 100 families in Johor Bahru, with many experiencing considerable obstacles in securing the essential care their children need.
The center, she said will be provided with specialized therapeutic equipment aimed at facilitating the development of children’s gross motor skills, fine motor skills, and sensory integration.

In addition, the area will include cushioned flooring to ensure a safe environment for all activities.
She said the main objectives of the project is to foster a safe and encouraging environment.
They would designate a specific space for children to take part in physical and sensory therapy, promoting their emotional and physical development.
On skills development, she said they would facilitate access to therapeutic equipment specifically tailored to assist children in improving their motor and sensory integration abilities.
Not mincing her words, she said it would also be some source of financial aid for families where it lessens the economic burden of therapy costs by delivering these services to families free of charge.
On training for volunteers, she said the centre would conduct training sessions for volunteers associated with Angel Heart JB, who will support the delivery of therapy under the supervision of the professional occupational therapist, Ernest Low.
She further pointed out that the financing for the project has been secured through a collaborative effort involving contributions from the RCPL, allocations from club project funds, and support from the D3310 Crocodile Fund, which collectively facilitated the acquisition of RM 24,000 for the establishment of the multi-sensory gym room.
The RCPL has taken a leading role in this initiative, driving the project forward in collaboration with Angel Heart JB to guarantee its success.
The club’s extensive network of volunteers, complemented by the expertise of professionals such as Ernest Low, has been instrumental in making this project a reality.
