JOHOR BAHRU: Charity is a beautiful act of giving without expecting anything in return. It’s a simple yet powerful gesture that can make a world of difference to those in need.

It can unite people and communities, alleviate suffering, and bring hope to those who have lost it.

In a world where greed and self-interest often reign supreme, charity reminds us of our shared humanity and collective responsibility to care for one another.

At the end of the day, it’s not about what you have or even what you’ve accomplished, it’s about who you’ve lifted up, who you’ve made better. It’s about what you’ve given back.

Over the years the Rotary Club of Kulai (RCK) has helped hundreds of people get back on their feet and into homes of their own.

The club has supported a number of causes as they believe in the inherent dignity and worth of every human being.

The club builds community and helps schools, institution, needy students, families, single mothers, charity homes and dialysis patients.

Speaking to ApaKhabar TV, Elise Teoh Siow Kee, president of RCK said great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day.

She said some schools may not have the most basic amenities or equipment for use. Hence, we decided to bring smiles to two schools in Johor.

RCK decided to help the school grow and provide them with the necessary stationery, printer and book rack.

RCK together with Rotary Club of Johor Bahru and Rotary Club of Johor Centennial had the privilege of handing over much-needed stationery and a printer to SK Sikijang in Iskandar Puteri.

The items were handed over to the school’s headmistress Norhayati Hathman who expressed her gratitude to RCK.

Norhayati said, “We are indeed grateful to RCK for this kind contribution which will be of great help.”

She said the school doesn’t get much assistance from parents as most of them are from the B40 group and low income.

She mentioned that the printer will definitely be of great assistance as many documents can be printed.

“I am also thankful to RCK for their contribution of A4 papers and marker pens which now the teachers can use during exams,” she remarked.

“We believe that every child deserves access to quality education, and sometimes that means lending a helping hand,” she said.

While the club recognizes the government’s role in supporting schools, they also understand that some may face challenges in securing adequate resources.

Not mincing her words, she said their contribution may be modest, but it comes from the heart.

“By providing essential tools like stationery and a printer, we aim to directly impact the students of SK Sikijang, ensuring they have the resources they need to succeed,” she asserted.

Meanwhile, RCK also joined hands with Rotary Club of Puteri Lagoon to hand over a brand new and specially designed book rack (mini library) in the form of twin tower, to create an exciting reading corner for the students.

The book rack was handed to SJK(C) Sengkang, Kulai headmistress Ong Chiew Ai in the presence of rotarians, teachers and students.

According to Elise this joint project aims to foster a love of reading by providing a dedicated space where books are easily accessible and beautifully displayed.

“We believe that by making books more appealing and organized, we can encourage students to explore new worlds and expand their imaginations,” she stated.

Elise Teoh thanked Rotary Club of Puteri Lagoon, Rotary Club of Johor Bahru and Rotary Club of Johor Centennial for their shared commitment to this cause.

“Your support has not gone unnoticed, and I am deeply grateful for your continuous encouragement and belief in our vision,” she said.

She said that this enduring power of generosity, reminds us that the act of giving is a gift in itself, enriching the lives of both the giver and the world.

“Happiness doesn’t result from what we get, but from what we give,” she added.
