JOHOR BAHRU: Sounds of laughter and joyous chatter filled the Johor Bahru Happy and Joyous Club (JBHJC) Fun Centre in Taman Pelangi where members and friends came together in a spirit of camaraderie to celebrate the club’s 16th anniversary.

Some 100 people from all walks of life, young and elderly turned up for the occasion where everyone participated in the laughter exercise like dancing laughter, fun interactive drum circle, Khedlly Koh’s singing and games.

There were also laughter yoga by Bachan Singh with various laughter groups, lucky draws, video presentation and lucky draws. A record number of people participated in the floor exercise.

There was laughter in the air as everyone guffawed, chuckled and giggled their hearts out during the club’s sweet 16 celebrations.

In her welcome address JBHJC president Koh Mui Cheng said the club has grown over the years and they grow as one big family.

“For us here, the members play a vital role and as the club grows they the members grow together,” said Koh.

She pointed out that everyone here has the opportunity to be happy and joyous.

She said the time has come to increase the membership and with growing popularity and numerous health benefits, laughter clubs have become a global phenomenon, bringing joy to people all around the world.

Koh made it clear that the club has talented and creative members who go all out to brighten your mood and bring more joy into your life.

Not mincing her words, she said members of laughter clubs can experience an increased sense of emotional well-being, happiness and positivity.

For many, she said, they feel more energetic and have more fun in their daily lives.

“Now that you know what laughter clubs are and the benefits they offer, it might be worthwhile to join us,” she said.

She stressed that laughter triggers the release of endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good chemical, which can help reduce pain and promote a sense of well-being.

She made it clear that injecting laughter into everyday lives could be challenging, especially when things seem mundane or bleak.

Despite that, she said that one could always find humour and joy in even the most difficult situations.

Over the years the JBHJC has involved thousands of people all around the state. They have conducted their laughter programme at public parks, schools, halls and online platforms.

She called on people to consider joining the club and get immersed themselves in the wonderful world of laughter.

She went on to say that JBHJC provides a fun way for people to come together in a group setting and engage in activities that promote laughter and joy.

According to Koh one great aspect of this club is that anybody can participate – regardless of age, fitness level, or experience. The activities are designed for maximum participation and can easily be adapted to suit each person’s abilities.

She said here the club offer an opportunity for people to come together for a shared experience.

“Our trained leaders facilitate group laughter exercises, ensuring that members can participate and enjoy in a fun and supportive environment,” she stated.

She explained that these sessions involve a combination of laughter exercises and breathing exercises.

The laughter exercises, she said, are designed to stimulate laughter through different scenarios and ideas while the breathing exercises help in relaxation and improving lung capacity.

She added that some laughter clubs incorporate laughter meditation to enhance the club’s experience.
