JOHOR BAHRU: The Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) JB District is constantly on the move and fully committed to providing voluntary service to the people in need.

The MRCS JB District have touched the hearts of many people as the branch was fully committed when comes to providing service.

Its chairman Chong Ah Ng says the MRCS will continue to render services for any noble cause, setting an example of dedication and unwavering commitment.

He urged members to give their utmost to the Society and provide all the necessary aid for those wanting or seeking assistance.

Chong, 75, who joined the society in 1977 said he joined the society which is a non-profit organization dedicated to humanitarian acts and services to alleviate human sufferings and to promote lasting peace amongst people.

One of the longest serving member in the MRCS JB District, he said, members need to be constantly on their feet when comes to service and assist the local community.

After more than four decades of service, he has never regretted joining the MRCS, calling it one of the best decisions he has made.

“It allowed us, as members, to make a significant contribution to the community,” he said.

He said this was their ultimate goal which is to offer our skills and services for the betterment of the public.

“It will not always be smooth sailing for members as each and everyone has a task to perform and they face a huge task ahead them,” he added.

Tan Yap Hau, officer in-charge of training said it is his job to ensure new and old members follow the guidelines given to them.

“Its my task to train the school teachers who are in-charge of MRCS by giving them a course on first aid, foot drill, training in home nursing and health education,” he remarked.

He said for the Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD) members they are given specific training in teaching methodology, first aid advance, education Red Cross (Red Crescent) and disaster relief.

For many joining the MRCS meant pursuing a path to acquiring essential first-aid skills and eventually becoming a nurse.

Khoo Jet Seng who helms the secretary post says his duty is to handle the administration.

“From time to time I brief the chairman on the day to day activities of the MRCS,” he stressed.

He said he arranges for the annual general meeting, handles documentation, represent the district in the state level meetings.

“I also have to ensure the readiness of the ambulance service and that the stocks of the first-aid are sufficient,” he said.

Khoo also maintains a close rapport with the government and other NGOs and agencies.

He is also responsible in the Youth Exchange programme with other countries promoting international networking and friendship with members of various countries.

Chua Liak Ching who is the vice-chairman assists the chairman on policy matters and handles the day to day proceedings of the MRCS JB District.

He overlooks the Voluntary Aid Detachment to ensure the programme runs smoothly.

He also has his eyes on other programmes of the MRCS and ensures that members must be 18 years and above before they join MRCS.

Chong Seng Nyak who manages the ambulance service says he is always on standby and works round-the-clock.

“My task is if there are patients who need to be transferred from one hospital to another then we provide the service,” he explained.

Whenever there is a sports event in the state be it indoor or outdoor then the ambulance service are provided.

“Should there be any festivals, carnivals, charity drive or blood donation then we ensure the ambulance are on stand-by,” he said.

Segar Balakrishnan, the officer in-charge of cadet says his role is to handle students currently pursuing their secondary education.

Basically students aged 13 to 17 years old (cadets/ youth members) are placed under the care of officer-in-charge (OC) Cadet of the Malaysian Red Crescent Association.

He said several activities such as competitions, foot drills, first aid, efficiency badge schemes, theory & practical exams are organised for the cadets throughout the year.

“The cadets also join the first aid duties during sports & games in schools and district level,” he said.

According to Segar the cadets do undergo trainings and exams of Red Cross/Crescent education and basic first aid.

In Segar’s words, “we have touched the hearts of many people” as the branch was fully committed to providing voluntary service at the most needed time.

Segar also reflected on the endless community contributions of JB District MRCS over the years.

For these six stalwarts, Chong Ah Ng, Tan, Khoo, Chua, Chong Seng and Segar they continue to render their services to this noble cause, setting an example of dedication and unwavering commitment.

As MRCS members each and every member has a role to play. They plan, design, deliver, review, and innovate the MRCS programmes and services.

In the fast-paced world, MRCS members are constantly on the move and today it is considered a leading and distinctive humanitarian organization that brings people and institutions together for the vulnerable.
