I was travelling from the new Bagan Datuk bridge towards Sabak Bernam, when I spotted this drone flying over the paddy field, spraying fertilizer (my guess).

Though drones have been used in agriculture for some time now, it is still fascinating to watch them in action, especially for someone like me who grew up in the kampung, and hence watching technology enter the mindscape of the traditional kampung agriculture is somewhat a realization how far we have gone.

I am still excited watching a tractor criss-crossing the paddy field and will stop to take photos, and now we have these flying machines.

The farmer/pilot was controlling the drone from the back of his truck after filling the containers below the drone.

So what else and where-to will technology lead us in the agriculture sector. Can it ensure food security for Malaysia and the planet. Must we employ technology to reach sustainability goals.

In recent years, and ongoing, the media has been showing how drones are used in the battlefields as killing machines. So the drones have dual purposes, to destroy humans or to grow food for humans, as in this example of fertilizing a paddy field.

Oh how humans can be so positively inventive and innovative, yet cruelly evilly destructive at the same time.

Another great day out in the paddy fields.
