I was exploring the mangrove forest when I spotted a Mangrove Skink, Emoia atrocostata, hunting and caught a small crab that was crawling on the muddy floor of the mangrove forest.
The skink then went on a fallen log with the crab in its mouth to enjoy the meal.
The Mangrove Skink is unique because it is one of the very few lizards in the world living in the inter-tidal zone, hunting crustaceans and insects as food.
Hence unlike other skinks, it can survive the saltwater conditions.
The much larger monitor lizard is another lizard able to survive in the inter-tidal zone
The rich biodiversity of Malaysian nature and natural wonders continue to amaze.
