Ever since I was small growing up in the kampung, the crowing of the rooster has been a fascination to me.

Why did the rooster crow in the morning, to wake everyone up? Often the rooster also crows at other times too, sometimes in the middle of the day, maybe some people slept late.

Perhaps the rooster also crows to announce its territory.

So this time I decided to observe the rooster crowing up close.

It was crowing at 8am, too late for a wake-up call, I saw some chickens around the kampung house where I spotted this rooster.

Maybe it was calling its flock around? Was it a warning to ward off danger?

Roosters can be noisy in the morning, while some are even noisier in the afternoon.

So it is still an amazement to me.

“When you hear the cock’s crow, ask Allah for His favor upon you for surely it has seen an angel. When you hear the bray of a donkey, seek refuge in Allah from Satan, for surely it has seen a devil.” [Narrated by al-Bukhari, (3058), Muslim (4908), Abu Dawud, (4438) and al-Tirmizi, (3381)]
