WCE marvels

The West Coast Expressway (WCE) and Federal Route 5 will be fully open to travelers in the near future. This vast stretch of 275,8 km is expected to accommodate 300.000 vehicles per day. These roads will ease the burden on the 1.8 million users by diverting 20 per cent of traffic from the North-South Expressway. As sections of the grand expressway are unveiled in Bandar Bukit Raja and Hutan Melintang as well as Lekir and Changkat Chermin, there’s progress as we speak, with an estimated 60% increase in traffic just this year.

WCE Sdn. Bhd., the brains behind this wonder, expect more magic to follow. Traffic will be reborn in Banting, South Klang Valley Expressway Assam Jawa and South Taiping that interlace with the existing tapestry. The Perak stretches are straight, safe and allow vehicles to avoid excessive turning.

As the roads call, excitement fills the air. They promise the transformation of landscapes as well as the creation of connections between distant destinations. Grab your maps and embark on a journey filled with wonder. Adventures await, weaving encounters with vistas which will etch the souls. Answer the road’s call, with your hearts aflame, as this is where life’s greatest treasures unfold.

While the young men are fishing, they cast hopeful glances towards the irrigation canals in order to catch a prize catfish. Children play soccer or badminton in their sprawling grassy lawns in front of their homes, with their laughter echoing through the air.

Women, adorned with umbrellas, shield themselves from the morning sun and carry baskets in their arms, trudging from some wet markets or Pasar Pagi somewhere in town, as they head home to prepare meals for their families. Or see modest women hanging clothes on the line with a towel covering their heads, like a hijab, while conversing with a neighbor plucking harvest from a mango tree in her lawn.

Let’s trudge on a journey of discovery where every turn will reveal a mosaic of ordinary moments that are extraordinary, and a glimpse of the beautiful fabric of everyday life that runs through these welcoming towns.

This towering oddity was built in 1885 by Mr. Leong Cheong and a group of Ceylonese builders. It was designed to be a reservoir but since the soft soil foundation proved to be a quagmire, causing the structure to tilt and lean over time. This quirk is what has made it a tourist magnet.

The riverfront is a lovely spot where you can enjoy leisurely cruises and take in the scenery along the water. If you are interested in history, Teluk Intan is home to the first police station of Malaysia, which has been standing since 1882.
