Get ready for a surge in the number of vehicles this weekend. Plus Malaysia Berhad in issuing a travel time advisory (TTA) said more than 1.8 million vehicles were consistently recorded per day following the start of the school holidays.
Plus chief operating officer Datuk Zakaria Ahmad Zabidi said the increase was recorded ever since Malaysia entered into the endemic phase, compared to about 1.6 million vehicles pre-Covid in 2019.
“Based on past travel patterns and traffic data during year-end holidays, we anticipate almost two million vehicles will travel across the highway network this weekend until year-end.
“We hope the highway users will follow the TTA schedule and plan their journey. Prepare for an extended travel time due to high traffic,” he added.
Zakaria said the TTA focuses on traffic distribution and aimed at reducing traffic congestion, mostly at major stretches, toll plazas and rest areas during the festive period.

“It is designed to prevent traffic heading towards further destinations from converging with the traffic heading towards nearer ones,” he said adding that adhering to it may make a positive difference.
Plus has also issued stop work and no lane closure orders from Dec 23 to Dec 26 and between Dec 30 and Jan 1 to avoid unnecessary congestion during the peak period.
This order will be effective except for temporary lane closures to make way for immediate accident clearance and cleaning works as well as emergencies or critical maintenance for safety reasons.
Zakaria advised users to get real time updates from Plus Twitter or download the application where users can access CCTV camera recordings along key stretches.
“It is good for users to stop at the R&R areas to take short breaks and ensure that their T&G cards or e-wallets are topped up,” he said.
