It’s been viral on Facebook and Tik Tok since Dec 11. A love story unlike most and the solemnisation of a marriage between a couple from “different” continents.

Yes, the bride was a beautiful 27-year old Maymun Nalubega-Rozanita Naziwa – a Malaysian/Uganda mixed parentage, and her husband Amar Hanif Mohd Farid, 31, also a lawyer, from Shah Alam, Selangor.

They met when pursuing law at MSU.

Just hours after tying the knot, they captured the imagination of more than 300,000 Tik Tok viewers and engaged in more than 1,000 commentaries on the uniqueness of their wedding ceremony. Now the figure is nearing the one million viewers mark just after five days!

Thanks to their friends and family members who saw a rare opportunity to showcase a unique marriage held at the K’seena House in Kuang, Selangor.

It was not just about the couple but a cultural mix rarely seen by Malaysians as well as Maymun’s entourage from Uganda led by her great grandfather Sheikh Dauda Lubega Ssguya, head of the Royal Clan Nsamba the 25th (SSBalangira/Omoluku Wo Mutuba).

The big secret that all the SocMed viewers didn’t know is that Maymun is a Princess of the Royal Clan and her father Prof. Dr Yunus Lubega Butanaziba is a direct descendant of the throne (from the great palace of Chwa-Male of Kibulala/twin son of the great King -Kintu of Buganda).

Maymun, born on January 11, 27 years ago in Malaysia, may not understand swahili but she is fluent in Mandarin, English, Arabic, French, Korean, Japanese and of course Bahasa Melayu.

Guests listen attentively to the Kadi’s wedding sermon

Everyone present were awed by Maymun’s beauty, comparing her with the famous singer Rihanna, and some even claimed she looked like a real-life barbie doll, despite her face covered under a veil to match her white kebaya.

They were even more surprised when her Ugandan representatives who included her aunty Aisha Matovu, showed off their glittering national costume called gomez. They became instant hit among the guests as well.

Sheikh Dauda, Aisha and other members of the entourage were taken by the Malaysian hospitality and believed it was a good start for the newly wed and relationship among the people in Africa, especially Uganda and Malaysia.

“I had no idea of what to expect of this event and as it turned out it was not just a marriage between the couples but also between cultures.

“We were overwhelmed by the hospitality of our new family and the guests who were at the reception,” he said.

During the “makan beradab”, Sheikh Dauda distributed dried coffee beans to the VIP guests and the couple as a unification symbol for the families.

All in the family… Both families ready for the snapshot.
